Grimma ist eine Große Kreisstadt im Landkreis Leipzig in Sachsen. Sie wurde 1200 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt.
Befragt man die über 825-jährige Geschichte Grimmas, wird man Erstaunliches feststellen: So ist die Stadt Geburtsort von Albrecht dem Beherzten, Stammvater des sächsischen Königshauses. Der berühmte Leipziger Buchhändler, Georg Joachim Göschen, siedelte 1797 mit Druckerei, Verlagshaus und Sommerresidenz in „eine der schönsten Gegenden der Welt". In Grimma verlegte er unter anderem Werke von Goethe und Schiller. An seiner Seite der Weltenbummler und Dichter, Johann Gottfried Seume, der sich von Grimma aus auf den Weg nach Syrakus machte. Werkstatt und Sommersitz sind heute Treffpunkt für Besucher aus aller Welt.

Die jüngste Geschichte zeichnet das Städtchen an der Mulde in Mitteldeutschland als Stadt mit dem schönsten Altstadtkern aus. Geschützt von der über 400 Meter langen, noch bestens erhaltenen Stadtmauer mit ihren zierlichen Mauerhäuschen und exklusivem Blick auf die Mulde mit ihrem romantischen Ufer glänzen prächtige Bauten aus zahlreichen Stilepochen - darunter das berühmte Rathaus mit dem markanten Renaissancegiebel. Streifzüge durch die Stadt machen bekannt mit alten Kirchen, wie der doppeltürmigen Frauenkirche und der ersten sächsischen Bettelordenskirche - der Klosterkirche. Aber auch das feudale Schloss, die mittelalterlichen Wohntürme und die ehemalige Landes- und Fürstenschule „St. Augustin" sind einen Besuch wert.

Besonders romantisch wird es flussaufwärts, vorbei an Sachsens längster Hängebrücke und der imposanten Gattersburg, erinnert die Klosterruine Nimbschen an Katharina von Bora, Martin Luther und die Reformation. Im Zuge der Lutherdekade präsentiert sich Grimma als besiegelte „Stätte der Reformation" mit einer Vielzahl von bedeutenden Aktivitäten in einer kulturhistorischen Form. Gegenüberliegend spricht das kleine Dorf Höfgen mehr als alle Sinne an. Im zertifizierten Urlaubsdorf klappern noch uralte Mühlenräder, lassen sich „Skulpturenschätze" entdecken oder laden Streuobstwiesen zum Duftspaziergang ein. Neben einer breiten Auswahl an Familienangeboten und kulinarischen Besonderheiten sorgen ein „klingender" Turm, eine moderne Galerie und ein geologischer Wanderweg für Kurzweil. Vor allem, aber ist das Muldeufer ein idealer Ausgangspunkt für Touren auf dem Mulderadweg.
