Wolfsschlucht - Ascent from the Zschopau to Wolkenstein Castle

If you walk past Wolkenstein Castle on the left coming from the market, steps and paths lead along the slope. There are benches on rocky outcrops and in nooks and crannies where you can enjoy the view of the Zschopau valley, and if you want to descend to the river, you pass through the Wolfschlucht gorge and feel a little reminiscent of the steps and crevices of "Saxon Switzerland". The name "Wolfsschlucht" (wolf gorge) is probably not a reference to the animals that used to live here, but to the howling of the wind between the narrow rock faces. Some of the rocks, which are made of crystalline slate - gneiss - can also be climbed by athletes.
