Towering rock walls, rushing water and dramatic wooden walkways: the Vorderkaserklamm gorge lets you experience the raw power of nature up close.

Deeply carved into the rock, the Vorderkaserklamm gorge vividly shows the power of water over thousands of years. Formed at the end of the last Ice Age, the mountain stream has gradually cut its way through the stone, creating a spectacular natural canyon. A series of wooden walkways leads you directly through the gorge: 51 bridges, 35 stairways and 373 steps guide you between towering rock walls while the rushing water roars far below. With every turn, new views of the dramatic landscape unfold.

The visit usually begins with a scenic 2.5-kilometre walk through the peaceful Schiedergraben valley. Along the way, several themed trails make the journey especially enjoyable. The Orchid Trail introduces you to native alpine orchids, while the Stone Age Trail invites families on a playful journey back in time with climbing elements, ropes and life-sized figures such as a mammoth and a sabre-toothed tiger.

After exploring the gorge, the Vorderkaser snack station is perfect for a relaxing break, and on warm days the nearby natural bathing area offers a refreshing dip in the middle of nature.

🚴🏻‍♀️ By bike: The Vorderkaserklamm gorge is located directly along the Tauern Cycle Path. In St. Martin, turn off towards Vorderkaserklamm and follow the signs to the entrance of the gorge.

Parking

There are free parking spaces available directly at Vorderkaser Gorge, including parking for coaches and school buses. Another large car park is located at the entrance to the nature reserve (parking fee). Parking along the road between the entrance and the gorge is not permitted.
