The Rouvas Gorge is located about 55 km southwest of Heraklion.
The Rouvas Gorge is not as touristically organised as the well-known Samaria or Imbros Gorge. However, it offers space for a beautiful, challenging hike, for which no alpine experience is necessary. The fact that there are so few tourists in the gorge makes it attractive, as the nature and the hike can be enjoyed in peace. In the gorge, narrow and steep passages alternate with paths through the forest. Critical sections are secured with railings or made easier by bridges and ladders. Depending on the season, water can also be found in the gorge, and the course of the stream is crossed several times.
