Svanninge Bakker - beautiful hilly landscape on Fyn
Svanninge Bakker, together with Svanninge Bjerge and Sollerup Skov, is the largest contiguous forest and nature area on the main island. The area is also known tongue-in-cheek as "The Fyn Alps". Here, the hilly landscape invites you to go for walks, watch the stars from the astronomical tower or enjoy the view of Svanninge Bakker from the top of the tower.
Until the 19th century, Svanninge Bakker was used for agricultural purposes and was mainly used for sheep grazing. However, tilling the poor soil was no longer worthwhile and the sheep population dwindled. The hills were therefore afforested. Today, more and more of the old pastures are being restored.
The Svanninge Bakker area is particularly popular with hikers. Numerous marked trails lead you through the hilly landscape and cozy restaurants and cafés invite you to relax.
