Up here, 300 million years ago, there was a warm shallow sea and large reptiles hunting for shellfish and echinoderms.

From a geological point of view, the Gardetta has occupied scholars for a long time and in 2001 the place was included in the list of Italian geological heritages due to the exceptional nature of its outcrops. Up here, 300 million years ago, there was a warm shallow sea and large reptiles hunting for shellfish and echinoderms. At the beginning of 2008 strange fossil footprints were discovered, classified as footprints of ticinosuchus (Ticinosuchus ferox) a reptile forerunner of the dinosaurs that lived in the Middle Triassic (about 235 million years ago). The encounter with the footprints could also disappoint. In fact, as also happens for petroglyphs they are not always easily visible and identifiable: it all depends on the light, the best is the grazing one.
