Rund um den Mindelsee breiten sich ausgedehnte Schilfzonen, Ried- und Weidewiesen aus, die einer Vielzahl von Tieren und Pflanzen einen Lebensraum bieten. Unter den rund 700 verschiedenen Blütenpflanzen finden sich auch 20 Orchideenarten. Aufmerksame Wanderer können Vogelarten wie Neuntöter, Schwarzkelchen oder Milane und am Abend Fledermäuse entdecken.
