Neben der geologisch belegten Variante zur Entstehung des Felsenmeers gibt es außerdem eine bekannte Legende:
Zwei Riesen wohnten einst in der Nähe von Reichenbach. Der eine lebte auf dem Felsberg, der andere auf dem Hohenstein. Irgendwann bekamen sie Streit miteinander und bewarfen sich in ihrem Zorn gegenseitig mit riesigen Felsblöcken. Der Hohensteiner Riese war hier im Vorteil, denn auf seinem Berg lagen mehr Steine, so dass der Felsberger bald klein bei geben musste. Deswegen befinden sich heute am Hohenstein nur noch wenige Felsen. Wenn man fest auf den Grund des Felsberges tritt, soll man auch heute noch die Riesen brüllen hören.
