Rodeado de belos jardins, essa fortificação medieval é o monumento mais emblemático da cidade de Beja. Possui uma Torre de Menagem de quase 40 metros de altura, considerada a torre militar mais alta do país.

A construção do Castelo de Beja, uma fortaleza de arquitetura gótica, teve início logo após a conquista cristã da cidade no século XII. Suas muralhas, que cercavam a cidade medieval, são visíveis ainda hoje.

Na praça de armas está situada a Casa do Governador, edifício que passou por diversas alterações e restaurações no curso da história. Atualmente, em seu interior funciona o Posto de Turismo da Cidade, uma cafetaria e um grande espaço para receber exposições temporárias.
