Over the centuries, Ramsberg changed hands several times, including the Lords of Rechberg, the Lords of Pappenheim and the Counts of Preysing. The impressive Dürnitzhalle in the basement is particularly well-known - a three-aisled, cross-ribbed vaulted hall with octagonal pillars from the 13th century. Its shape is considered unique north of the Alps and is reminiscent of the architecture of crusader castles in the Middle East.
After several renovations in the 16th century, the complex took on its current appearance with the striking three-storey manor house and stepped gables. The late Gothic castle chapel dates back to 1560 and was lovingly restored after a fire in the 1960s.
Today, the castle is privately owned and is not open to the public. From the outside, however, it presents an imposing picture - a silent witness to the Staufer era and the long history of the Filstal valley.
