Cetatea Aradului este un excelent exemplar de cetate în stil Vauban în formă de stea cu șase colțuri. Din păcate, cetatea nu are destinație turistică, clădirile din incintă fiind folosite în scop militar.

Cetatea a fost construită între 1763-1783. Dispune de trei rânduri de cazemate subterane și mai multe rânduri de șanțuri, care puteau fi inundate la nevoie. Clădirile din incintă sunt în stil baroc. Tot în incintă mai există ruinele unei biserici franciscane, ultimii călugări plecând de aici în 1861. Cetatea a fost folosită până în 1918 pe post de închisoare. Funcția ulterioră, păstrată și în prezent, a fost de garnizoană.
