Der imposante Berg, die gleichnamige Ruine und das darunterliegende Schloss Drachenfels bieten einen beeindruckenden Anblick.Der Rest der Höhenburg stammt aus dem 12. Jahrhundert und ist heute ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel. Von hier oben hat meinen einen grandiosen Panoramablick über das Rheintal bei Bonn und bei gutem Wetter sieht man sogar die zwei Turmspitzen des Kölner Doms. Um den Berg und die Ruine ranken sich viele Mythen und Sagen. Die bekannteste ist Geschichte von Siegfried dem Drachentöter aus der Nibelungensage.
Der Weg zur Ruine ist sehr steil. Wer dem schweißtreibenden Anstieg entgehen möchte, der nimmt die Drachenfelsbahn hoch zum Plateau. Bei Kindern ist vor allem der Ritt auf Eseln entlang des Eselsweges beliebt. Die Esel gelten als Erkennungszeichen des Drachenfelses.

Zu Fuß: Von der Talstation der Drachenfelsbahn führt der sogenannte Eselsweg, vorbei an der Nibelungenhalle und der Vorburg, bis zum Schlosstor. Für einen gemächlichen Aufstieg benötigen Sie etwa 30 Minuten.
Mit der Drachenfelsbahn: Sie haben die Möglichkeit, mit der historischen Zahnradbahn bis zum Schlosstor (Mittelstation) zu fahren.
Auf einem Drachenfels Esel: An der Talstation der Drachenfelsbahn gibt es auch einen Reittierhalter. Je nach Esel und Sturheit sollte man hier allerdings etwas mehr Zeit und Gelassenheit einplanen
