Seit ihren Anfängen ist die Staufische Burganlage im Familienbesitz der Herren und Grafen von Neipperg. Nach 1120 wurde die vordere Burg erbaut, wovon nur noch der Bergfried erhalten ist. Der Umbau zum Wirtschaftshof mit Speicher, Scheune und Stallungen erfolgte 1850.
Die Burg ist heute in Privatbesitz.

Die Geschichte

Auf einer Bergnase, einem Ausläufer des Heuchelberges, ragt erhaben die Burg Neipperg über dem Ort. Seit ihren Anfängen ist die Staufische Burganlage im Familienbesitz der Herren und Grafen von Neipperg.Nach 1120, in der frühen staufischen Burgbauzeit, wurde die vordere Burg erbaut. Davon ist nur noch der Bergfried erhalten, der mit einem talwärts gerichteten und mit einem bergwärts höher gezogenen Schild die örtliche Lage nutzte.Um 1500 wird die Burganlage mehr und mehr, der Zeitentwicklung entsprechend, zu einem befestigten Schloss gewandelt.Ab 1850 lässt Graf Alfred von Neipperg den Erfordernissen der Zeit entsprechend die Burganlage zu einem Wirtschaftshof mit Speicher, Scheune und Stallungen umbauen. Zum anderen verbleibt auch eine romantische Burgruine.

Das Gebäude

Mit Beginn des 13. Jahrhunderts wurde der fortgeschrittenen Schleuder- und Belagerungstechnik Rechnung getragen und die hintere Burg gebaut. Der Bergfried der hinteren Burg wurde auf einer höher gelegenen Felsnase als Wohnturm mit 4 Stockwerken, Innenmaß 6 x 6 Meter, erbaut. Die vordere Burg wurde in die Außenmauer der hinteren Burg nicht einbezogen. Außerhalb der Burgmauer wurde auch zu jener Zeit die Burgkapelle gebaut, die dem hl. Georg geweiht war und der Johanneskirche in Schwaigern unterstand.Ca. 1330 wird der Bergfried um ein fünftes Geschoss aufgestockt, die Waffen- und Belagerungstechnik machte dies erforderlich.Andererseits konnte damit der Bau eines dritten Turmes erspart werden. Zum weiteren Ausbau der hinteren Burg wurde die vordere Burg als „Steinbruch“ genutzt.
