Eine Wehranlage bestand in Belzig bereits im 5. Jh. v. Chr. Im Jahr 997 wurde das "burgwardium belicsi" erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Das Erscheinungsbild der heutigen Burg entstand im 15. Jh. aus einem mittelalterlichen Vorgängerbau. In dieser Zeit erhielt die sächsische Grenz- und Residenzanlage sieben runde Ecktürme sowie den Namen "Eisenhardt". Im Jahe 1636, während des 30-jährigen Krieges, zerstörten schwedische Truppen die Festungsanlage, die um 1700 dann wieder aufgebaut wurde. Heute kann man auf der Burg heiraten oder das Heimatmuseum besuchen. Vor den Burgmauern steht eine kursächsische Postsäule.
