Zum Tal hin stürzt der Felsen steil Richtung Eisack und Thinnebach, im Rücken ist die Burg Branzoll vom überragenden Kloster geschützt. Direkt unter der Burg Branzoll schmiegen sich die Dächer der dicht gedrängt stehenden Häuser der kleinen Stadt Klausen zwischen Fels und Eisackfluss.
Die Burg Branzoll mit dem wuchtigen Bergfried wurde im 13. Jahrhundert von den Herren von Säben erbaut, später ging die Wehranlage an die Fürstbischöfe von Brixen über. 1671 brannte Burg Branzoll bis auf den Bergfried nieder und verfiel danach zusehends. Erst im 19. und Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts wurden die Gebäude wieder aufgebaut oder ergänzt. Der Wiederaufbau wurde erst 1912 durch den Anbau eines Wohngebäudes vollendet.
Burg Branzoll ist Privatbesitz und kann nicht besichtigt werden. Einen guten Blick auf die Anlage erhält jedoch, wer sich von Klausen aus an der Burg Branzoll vorbei auf den Weg hoch zum Kloster Säben macht.
