Rümmele überbrückte die Wutach an vier Stellen mit baugleichen Eisenstegen: Fundament am rechten, Auflagepfeiler am linken Ufer, Verankerung des Stegs im Fels.
Der historische Rümmele-Steg (70 Meter flussabwärts) ist als einziger der vier damaligen Stege noch im Originalzustand erhalten. Lediglich der linke Auflagepfeiler fiel dem Hochwasser zum Opfer.
Allerdings hat die Wutach durch laufende Verbreiterung ihres Bettes den Steg 1995 endgültig außer Funktion gesetzt. Der Schwarzwaldverein - Ortsgruppe Bonndorf - erhält den Steg als Baudenkmal und als Beispiel für die Dynamik des Wildflusses Wutach.
1995/96 errichtete der Schwarzwaldverein den neuen Rümmele-Steg, eine an zwei Pylonen hochwassersicher aufgehängte Holzkonstruktion.
