Das jedes Jahr in Berga stattfindende Fest der Patum geht auf die im Mittelalter im Zusammenhang mit den Fronleichnamprozessionen veranstalteten volkstümlichen Feste zurück und konnte sich diese Vermengung von weltlichen und religiösen Wurzeln bis auf unsere Tage uneingeschränkt bewahren. Charakteristische Merkmale des Festgeschehens sind sein Reichtum und seine Vielseitigkeit, der Fortbestand des mittelalterlichen Straßentheaters und all die verschiedenen rituellen Komponenten, die von der Patum nicht wegzudenken sind.
