This pretty plant is highly poisonous! Eating it is life threatening and even touching can cause terrible blisters. The seeds are particularly poisonous. Eating just 10-12 berries would be enough to kill an adult, and 3-5 are all that’s needed to see off a pig. Astonishingly, just 30 grams of its bark are a fatal dose for a horse! The true daphne (daphne mezereum) blooms very early in the year. It features pink flowers on nearly leafless stems.
