Die Dicke Eiche (Entstehungszeit ca. 1650) ist ein Zeugnis der früheren Mittelwaldwirtschaft, die bis ca. 1850 betrieben wurde. Unter einem Schirm großer Eichen und Buchen wurden alle 10-20 Jahre junge Eichen und Buchen gefällt - "auf den Stock gesetzt" -. Ihr Holz diente zur Holzkohleerzeugung oder als Brennholz. Die Eichenrinde konnte in Gerbereien als "Lohe" Verwendung finden.

Der schnell aufkommende Grasbewuchs ermöglichte anschließend eine Nutzung dieser Flächen als Waldweide.
