Let yourself be enchanted on one of the many hikes on and around the pond area in Braunfels and enjoy this unique piece of nature!

The pond system Großer Weiher, Eisweiher and Warmer Weiher are artificially created waters. The pond system, which has been shaped by humans, is a karst spring and a unique feature of the Braunfels area. Over the years, this refuge has been largely taken back into possession by nature.

The pond system Great Pond, Ice Pond and Warm Pond are artificially created waters. When and for what purpose they were once created, there is no evidence of this. In the winters around the turn of the century, wonderful ice festivals were celebrated here with lampion lighting and music, and in summer you could go on boat trips. The pond system, which was shaped by humans, is a karst spring and a unique feature of the Braunfels area. Over the years, this refuge has been largely taken back into possession by nature. The Warm Pond in Braunfels is embedded in the dense tree population in the Iserbach Valley above the road to Tiefenbach. The Eisweiher opposite the road is an attraction for nature lovers with its worth seeing bird population. Up the valley lies the Großer Weiher, a paradise for all kinds of birds and insects.

In the protected and observation area "Warme Weiher" at the Obermühle in Braunfels the kingfisher, the flying gemstone, finds a habitat. Since the "Warme Weiher", fed by a chestnut spring, does not freeze over even in harsh winters, the kingfisher finds enough food here. The observation of the rare water rail is also a special feature of this pond. With the support of the AGNU, AG Natur und Umwelt im Stadtmarketing Braunfels, the free water areas were preserved, the surroundings of the pond were maintained and biotopes were created. The conservationists have made it their task to carefully maintain this nature refuge close to the city. It is thanks to their tireless efforts that this unique protected area is now accessible to young and old alike as a nature experience area.
