The Soca River is a special jewel among the Slovenian rivers, representing one of the national treasures on which every Slovene builds his national consciousness and pride.
The Soča river and its tributaries are considered a unique destination for fly fishing, which is indeed the only kind of fishing that is allowed on the Soča river. Soča’s upper reaches are fast and have numerous rapids, cascades and pools. In many areas, the river flows through short gullies. The Soča river distinguished itself for its emerald colour, its white pebbles and its winding streambed, which is truly breathtaking as it flows through the green valley towered by snowcapped mountains.
Fishing is allowed on the upper Soča river from the road bridge for the village Vas na Skali, up to the road bridge at the village of Čezsoča (the whole 14 km) and in its tributaries Lepenja and Koritnica. In part of the fishing area it is allowed to take the fish caught, but at the and the other part, catch and release is the name of the game.
Main hunting fishes: The biggest attraction of the Soča river is the trout Salmo marmoratus, which is called the Soca trout (it also lives in several other rivers in the Adriatic basin) in Slovenia. It is one of the largest salmonids, and as an indigenous fish and pre-modern endemic species, it ejoys special protection.
In addition to trout and rainbow trout, hybrids of racially pure Soča grayling and Sava grayling are also interesting for fishing.
Possibility of fishing: brown trout, grayling, hybrids, italian barbel, Italian Chub, marble trout, rainbow trout
Type of fishing: boat angling, float fishing, fly fishing, spin fishing
Allowed baits: artificial fly, bread, cheese, corn, fruit, plug, silicone bait, spoon lures

The fish population is very large throughout Soča’s stream. It includes marble trout, rainbow trout and a type of grayling that is specific for the Soča river. The fishing season in the Soča Valley extends from April until the end of October, when the water level is lower and fish start feeding intensively before the onset of winter.
