Dieser Storchenhorst befindet sich im Ortskern von Schnaditz und wurde 2018 von einem Weißstorchenpaar erfolgreich zur Brut benutzt.

Der Weißstorch ist historisch gesehen ein charakteristischer Bewohner unserer Kulturlandschaft. Er bevorzugt offene strukturreiche Landschaften mit reichem Nahrungsangebot, wie zum Beispiel Feuchtgrünland und Flussauen.

Aufgrund des Rückgangs potentieller Lebensräume steht die Art mittlerweile in allen deutschen Bundesländern auf der "Roten Liste" der gefährdeten Arten,

Im Umland von Schnaditz finden die Weißstörche durch das viele Grünland und die Aue mit verschiedenen Altwässern viel Nahrung. Zum Nahrungsspektrum zählen u.a. Kleinsäuger, Amphibien, Reptilien und Insekten.

Der Storchenhorst wurde in diesem Jahr (2018) erfolgreich von einem Weißstorchenpaar zu Brut genutzt. So wurden im Jahr 2018 drei Jungstörche aufgezogen.

Der Landschaftspflegeverband Nordwestsachsen e.V. leistet durch die jährliche Kontrolle der Weißstorchnistplätze, gemeinsam mit dem regionalen Weißstorch-Artbetreuer, einen wichtigen Beitrag zum Artenschutz.
