This is a reconstructed microdam, in Amirgiali, with a barrier under the bridge. The microdams, are low cliffs, which cover the slope of the bed, thus reducing the speed of the water flow. In this way small troughs are created, which make the water readily available for the crops, but also for the domestic and wild animals (“vaskines”). At the same time, the aquifer is enriched, since it infiltrates more water into the ground. In combination with the terraces, which help the storage of rainwater in the soil, but also the watermills, the water channels, the cisterns and other hydraulic works, were stone-built complexes of traditional water resources management, which supported the natural function of ravine and were perfectly harmonized in the space. The “ties” were reconstructed in September 2020, as part of this programme.
