Belmontas Watermill

The place name Belmont is derived from the Italian phrase "bello monte" and means "beautiful mountain". Locals are attracted here, where the Belmont Mill has an entertainment and leisure center and a dam with waterfalls. However, the real name of the mill is French. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Frenchman Karolis Devimas leased a plot of land by the Vilnius City Board by the Vilnius River and built a brick watermill and an auxiliary building there. Since half of the auxiliary building was unused, the owner installed an inn in it. Over time, the mill with the auxiliary building and the plot of land passed to other owners, but the name of the mill remained in people's memory. The mill retained its original function for many years - it was used to grind grain even after the Second World War. The water dam built to turn the wheels of the mill and the bridge above it were carefully maintained at all times.
