Maria Rain ist eine bedeutende Allgäuer Marienwallfahrt. Die Enstehungslegende, die in einem großen Wandbild bestaunt werden kann, besagt, dass eine Ulme an jener Stelle stand. Wer bei der Nutzung des Wassers die Gottesmutter angerufen habe, konnte erfahren, dass sich das Quellwasser in wundertätiges Wasser verwandelte.
Vor der Kirche besteht bis heute ein Brunnen. Die Kirche selbst besteht in Teilen seit dem 11. Jahrhundert. Die Erweiterung zur Wallfahrtskirche erfolgte Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts. Später wurde die Kirche barockisiert.
