Die kleine Barockkirche am ziel der westlichen Oberschwäbischen Barockstraße soll durch Fürstbischof Marquard Rudolph von Rodt zum Dank für dessen Errettung aus Seenot gestiftet worden sein. Zumindest erinnert noch sein Wappen und die Jahreszahl 1702 über der Eingangstür an den Konstanzer Bischof. Fertig gestellt wurde die Kirche aber erst durch dessen Neffen Franz Konrad von Rodt (1750-1775).
Im Innenraum begeistern zwei Landschaftdarstellungen der Bodenseeregion von Johann Wolfgang Baumgartner in den Deckengemälden, die unter anderem auch die Seerettung des Stifters darstellen. Im Dekenfresko des linken Querhauses ist eine Ansicht auf Meersburg und Konstanz von 1750 dargestellt, während auf dem Bodensee zwei zerbrechliche Bote mit Passagieren auf den Wellen schaukeln. Im rechten Querhauses ist dagegen die ist die Aussicht vom Eingang der Kirche ins Salemer Tal zu sehen. Deutlich ist die Silhouette von Bermatingen und Markdorf zu erkennen.
