In den Jahren 1471-1477 wurde die heutige Kirche anstelle eines kleineren Vorgängerbaus neu errichtet. Die Steine, meist von der abgebrochenen Burg Obergösgen, wurden auf der Aare herbeigeschafft. Werkmeister Gisel übernahm für den Neubau das Schema der Klosterkirche von Königsfelden. Nach der Reformation von 1528 wurden die zwölf Altäre entfernt und die Bilder verbrannt. 1965/66 wurde das Gotteshaus in ursprünglicher Schlichtheit restauriert.
