Neuhemsbach Castle was built in 1715 on the ruins of the castle of the Barons of Flersheim, which was destroyed in the War of the Palatinate Succession in 1689. The castle church in Neuhemsbach was built in 1739 by Count Friedrich Ludwig von Sayn-Wittgenstein, 25 years after the foundation stone of Neuhemsbach Castle was laid. The castle was plundered and set on fire by the French during the Revolutionary Wars in 1795. The church was rebuilt at the beginning of the 19th century. The ruins of the castle were sold to builders in the neighbourhood, who stripped the buildings down to their foundations. Even today, building materials from Neuhemsbach Castle can still be found on some of the houses in Neuhemsbach.
