Die Pfarrkirche ist zweifellos die stattlichste Barockkirche im ganzen Pustertal. Auf den Fundamenten einer romanischen und später gotischen Kirche erbaut, wurde - dem künstlerischen Trend der Zeit folgend - von 1764 bis 1774 die heutige Barockkirche erbaut. Mit der Planung und Bauleitung wurde der Toblacher Baumeister Rudolf Schraffl betraut. Der Pfarrturm, der sich frei im Nordwesten des Hauptschiffes erhebt, wurde 1804 fertiggestellt.
