Today's Romanesque east tower church from the 13th century was connected to an even older Romanesque chapel. In the middle of the 15th century, the interior of the church was redesigned in late Gothic style. The simple nave with a smooth gable front adjoins the massive, rectangular tower with a crested hipped roof in the east.
After the fire of 1427, the nave was converted into a two-aisled, four-bay hall with a ribbed vault. The two-arched gallery rests on an irregular groined vault. The murals on the gallery parapet are fragments of a series of apostles (mid 15th century). The parish of Sallingstadt consists of the villages of Sallingstadt, Walterschlag, Limbach and Windhof. The 600 soul parish has been looked after by Father Daniel Gärtner since May 2009.
Windhof, Walterschlag and Limbach chapel are also well worth a visit.
