Catholic Church of Our Lady of Solitude, in Porto Covo

The Church of Porto Covo, currently serving as a parish church, is also known as the Church of Nossa Senhora da Soledade, due to housing the image of the town's patron saint. This religious building, constructed in the 18th century based on the design by Joaquim Guilherme d’Oliveira, is characterized by its austere architecture that reflects the hybridity of the reign of D. Maria I. While adhering to a typical regional architectural style, the church incorporates Baroque details, such as curved lintels and polylobed finishes, contrasting with the overall rigidity of the design. Located in Largo Marquês de Pombal, this church is the focal point of the annual celebrations in honor of Nossa Senhora da Soledade.
