Das Wahrzeichen der Stadt, die dem hl. Leonhard geweihte Stadt- und Wallfahrtskirche, gehört zu den interessantesten Denkmälern frühgotischer Sakralkunst in Österreich.
Wenn man von Wolfsberg Richtung Zeltweg fährt, erblickt man auf einer Anhöhe die Leonhardikirche, eine der schönsten gotischen Kirchen Kärntens. Die Leonhardikirche ist die Pfarrkirche der Stadt Bad St. Leonhard i.Lav., von welcher auch der Ort seinen Namen erhalten hat. Geschichtlich nachweisbar ist die Gründung einer Kirche oder Kapelle durch Bischof Otto von Bamberg zwischen 1106 und 1139. Diese ursprüngliche Kirche war in romanischem Stil erbaut, wovon heute nur noch die Sakristei und der Karner übrig sind. Die jetzige gotische Leonhardikirche stammt aus dem 14. und 15. Jahrhundert. Sie ist eine dreischiffige Basilika.
