In recent years, the late Gothic church has been restored and now serves as a festival and concert hall.
Werner I of Bolanden, the ancestor of the powerful ministerial family, was the founder and first steward of the great monastery. He must have begun construction as early as 1120. Excavation and building findings revealed that the execution proceeded swiftly from the large monk house in the east to the smaller lay house in the west.
