Die Kirche ist eine adelige Eigenkirche und geht auf den Grafen von Sternberg (1285) zurück, bereits im Jahr 1499 wird auf diese Pfarre verwiesen.
Trauungen und Taufen wurden in der Kirche St. Georg zu Sternberg vorgenommen, beerdigt mussten aber die Pfarrangehörigen in den Filialkirchen werden.
Die jetzige Pfarrkirche ist im gotischen Stil des 15. Jahrhunderts erbaut, aber Teile aus der romanischen Zeit (13. Jhdt.) haben sich noch erhalten.
Der Aufsatz des Hauptaltares ist aus Holz, im Barockstil. Der hl. Georg, auf dem Pferd sitzend, seitwärts sind die hl. Florian und hl. Sebastian, der hl. Josef und die hl. Barbara. Die Seitenaltäre sind der hl. Mutter Gottes geweiht.
