Die St. Margareten Kirche wurde nach einem Brand 1704 wieder aufgebaut. Der Turm wurde erst 1737 fertig.

1296 trafen sich die Vögte von Gera, Weida und Plauen auf dem Rittersitz und schlossen einen Familienvertrag, der als Bobenneukirchner Vertrag in die Geschichte einging. Er gilt heute als urkundliche Ersterwähnung des Ortes, der sich an der Grenze zwischen (Kur-)Sachsen und dem heute fränkischen Regnitzland befindet.

Aus Richtung Bad Brambach nehmen Sie die Bundesstraße B 92 und biegen in Oelsnitz links in Richtung Bösenbrunn ab.
