Crosvillare als eigene Pfarrei wird schon sehr früh, nämlich in der so genannten » Hohenhurster Urkunde « aus dem Jahre 1329 erstmals namentlich erwähnt. Politisch und zunächst auch »kirchlich« gehörte Großweier den Markgrafen von Baden. Der Markgraf oder seine Lehensträger  > bis zum Jahre 1404 waren dies die Grafen von Eberstein  < übten über die Pfarrei das Patronatsrecht aus. Sehr früh schon kam die Pfarrei Großweier zum Bistum Straßburg, dem es bis zur Gründung des Erzbistums Freiburg im Jahre 1827 ununterbrochen angehörte. Kirchenpatron Großweier ist der Heilige Martin, Bischof  von Tours (Patrozinium : 11. November), was auf fränkischen und damit auf einen sehr frühen Ursprung hinweist. Alten Urkunden nach zu schließen gab es für die » Schlosskirche « -   vermutlich eher eine Kapelle   -   einen eigenen Schutzpatron, nämlich den Heiligen Georg. Wann genau die um das Jahr 1560 abgebrannte Kirche wieder aufgebaut  wurde, kann nicht nachgewiesen werden. An ihre Stelle trat wohl wieder eine vorwiegend aus Holz gebaute, die dann erst im Jahre 1722 erneuert und nunmehr aus Stein erbaut wurde. Diese Kirche wurde dann gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts allmählich zu klein.Zunächst musste der geplante Neubau um 50 Jahre verschoben werden; wegen der »jetzigen Gemeindeverhältnisse«. Die Wirren der Revolution mit den sehr hohen Ablösesummen für die Fronden und Zehnten - dann musste die Gemeinde noch armen Ortseinwohnern die Überfahrt nach Amerika bezahlen  -  waren der Grund warum die Gemeinde finanziell nicht in der Lage war an einen Neubau der Kirche zu denken. Erst am 26. April 1900 wurden dann die Bauarbeiten für den Bau einer hölzernen Notkirche und den Neubau vergeben.
Am Pfingstmontag, den 27.05.1901 konnte die Grundsteinlegung vollzogen werden. Am 21. 09. 1902 erfolgte dann die Benedizierung durch den Prälat Franz Xaver Lender aus Sasbach. Am 9. Mai 1907 fand dann im Rahmen einer Firmung die feierliche Einweihung durch den Weihbischof Friedrich Justus Heinrich Knecht statt. Während im Turm der alten Kirche aus dem Jahre 1722 drei Glocken hingen, bekam der neue Turm vier Glocken. Die größte der alten war nunmehr die kleinste Glocke der neuen, in neugotischem Stil erbauten Kirche. In jeweils beiden Weltkriegen wurden jedes Mal drei Glocken eingezogen und zu Kanonen eingeschmolzen. Erst im Jahre 1965 wurde eine Heizung in die Kirche eingebaut. Danach erfolgte in den Jahren 1971/72 eine gründliche Innenrenovierung, der unter anderem sämtliche Wandmalereien im Chor und Langhaus zum Opfer fielen. In den Jahren 1984/85 wurde dann eine genauso gründliche Außenrenovierung notwendig. Eine erneute Außenrenovierung erfolgte im Jahre 2004. Nach Fertigstellung aller notwendigen Arbeiten erstrahlte die stolze, neugotische Kirche Großweiers wieder im alten Glanz, von weitem schon als Wahrzeichen Großweiers zu erkennen.
