Filialkirche hl. Petrus

Die Peterskirche, auf einem südöstlichen Felssporn des Petersberges gelegen, überragt markant die Stadt. Die urkundlich erstmals 1130 genannte und ursprünglich in den Außenbering der Burg eingebaute Kirche wurde lange als karolingisch angesehen. Bauforschungen der letzten Jahre haben die Kirche jedoch als schrittweise gewachsene spätromanische Anlage ausgewiesen. Man betritt die Kirche durch ein Rundbogenportal mit einer Steinrahmung bestehend aus Spolien des 13. Jhs. Die ältesten Teile des kombinierten Kirchenbaues mit Langhaus, eingezogenem, turmartig erhöhtem Chorquadrat und kreuzgratgewölbter Halbrundapsis, sind das gewölbte Chorquadrat und die Apsis (frühes 13. Jh.) in welche Triumphbögen mit typischen romanischen Kämpferprofilen führen. Das Langhaus besitzt eine barock stuckierte Kassettendecke und rundbogige Trichterfenster (spätes 13. Jh.) und im Westen eine hölzerne Empore. Das Chorquadrat ist gegenüber dem Langhaus um 2 Stufen, die Apsis gegenüber dem Chorquadrat um eine Stufe erhöht.

Der Hochaltar (1670/80) hat als Mittelbild den knienden Apostel Petrus und im Aufsatz Bild Gottvater. Der rechte Seitenaltar (um 1680) ist ähnlich wie der Hochaltar gestaltet und besitzt als Mittelbild eine Darstellung der Bischöfe Vitalis und Thiemo (?) sowie einen Altaraufsatz mit Ecce-homo Darstellung. Ebenfalls um 1680 entstand der linke Seitenaltar, ein Knorpelwerkaltar, mit einem Altarblatt Heilige Sippe vom Meister Melchior aus St. Paul. Es handelt sich dabei um die Mitteltafel eines Flügelaltares. Die ehemaligen vier Flügelbilder mit Szenen aus der Joachims- und Annenlegende sind seitlich über dem Hauptbild angeordnet. Die Kanzel mit einem rechteckigen Kanzelkorb entstand zeitgleich mit den Altären und ist mit zum Teil erneuerten Schablonenschnitzereien verziert.

Ergänzt wird das Kircheninventar durch Konsolfiguren der hll. Petrus und Paulus (um 1600) sowie Bildern mit Darstellungen des hl. Nepomuk, der hl. Barbara (auf der Empore), einem Heilig-Haupt-Bild und einem Bild Christus als guter Hirte (alle 18. Jh.).
