1659 wurde mit dem Bau einer kleinen Holzkirche begonnen, die am Sonntag Cantate 1661 geweiht wurde.
1692 wurde der Grundstein für eine massive Kirche gelegt, die 1694 geweiht wurde.
Sie ist mit ihrem aus rohem Holz bestehenden Tonnengewölbe, der Kanzel, den Emporen, dem gesamten Gestühl und dem Fußboden aus handgefertigten Ziegelsteinen im wesentlichen bis heute erhalten.
Die Orgel der Gebrüder Poppe und die Empore über dem Altar mit der gusseisernen Außentreppe samt Eingangstür wurden im 19. Jahrhundert ergänzt. Der Altar mit Bildern des schwedischen Malers Andreas Nordling, der Taufstein und das Lesepult stammen noch aus der alten Kirche.
Übrigens ist der Altar identisch mit dem der Kirche Pfaffroda.
