Chiesa Sant'Antonio Abate
In this single-nave church, the Baschenis family's pictorial work began in 1474. Of particular interest is the cycle dedicated to the saint, developed in images with captions in the vernacular.
The pictorial work of the Baschenis, the family of Bergamo itinerant painters, began in the church of Sant'Antonio Abate in Pelugo, where Christopher, the first of the dynasty to arrive in Trentino, signed in 1474 an imposing fresco of Sant'Antonio Abate above the door. The work was then completed with the help of his son Dionisio. The church – which has a single aisle that is not very wide and is covered by a span-roof supported by a roof-truss on the façade - also features for the first time a real cycle dedicated to a single theme: the life of Sant'Antonio, told through numerous images accompanied by captions in the vernacular. Finally, the Romanesque bell tower with ghibelline cusp is very beautiful.
STRENGTH:
The imposing fresco of SaintAnthony Abbot above the church door and the unusual presence of two works depicting the Last Supper: one in the hall of the faithful and the other in the presbytery.
