Initially a shrine dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua stood at this same position on the Weritzalp and a modest timber chapel was later constructed around it in 1976. The chapel tower, in which the small bell of the old Wiler baroque chapel still rings today, was only built three years later. The altar table made of a stone slab also gives the chapel a unique aura. Saint Anthony is the patron saint of the poor, married couples, lovers, swineherds and travellers and is invoked in cases of infertility, demonic powers, cattle diseases as well as shipwrecks and in war. Saint Anthony is also invoked to find lost objects, as well as for birth and good harvests. His commemoration day is on 13th June.
