Die gotische Kirche St. Stephan steht an einem von Fuhrleuten einst gefürchteten Abschnitt des Jakobsweges und der alten Handelsroute vom Allgäu zum Bodensee. Die ehemalige Salzstraße musste hier den "Hahnschenkel" überwinden. Von den Mühen zeugt bis heute die mit zahlreichen Hufeisen als Votivgaben beschlagenen Tür zur Sakristei.
