The beautifully green Elisabeth’s Cemetery is located 900 meters from the roundabout.
Since the middle of the 1800s, many well-known residents of Kokkola have been buried here.
One of these was the seal hunter Matts Kankkonen, who succeeded in staving off the British from the city in 1854, during the Crimean War. He also managed to take over a longboat (barge) which is on display in the English Park in the city centre today.
This boat is the only British vessel that has ever been conquered in battle.
