Diese Höhle wurde seit dem Paläolithikum 5.000 Jahre lang nahezu ununterbrochen vom Menschen genutzt. Demzufolge ist sie unter archäologischen Gesichtpunkten reich bestückt. Die Bewohner der umliegenden Orte glaubten, die Malereien stammen von ehemaligen Bewohnern muslimischer Siedlungen, so dass der Ort unter dem Namen Roca del Moros (Maurenfels) bekannt wurde. Sie zählt zum Mittelmeerbogen in Katalonien und stellt somit UNESCO-Welterbe dar.
