Die Maximiliansgrotte ist eine der größten Höhlen der Fränkischen Alb. Sie erstreckt sich auf einer Länge von bis zu 140 m und mehreren Etagen. Archäologische Funde belegen, dass die Höhle bereits in der Steinzeit von Menschen aufgesucht wurde. Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung stammt aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. Seit 1862 kann die Maximiliansgrotte als Schauhöhle besichtigt werden.

Besonders sehenswert sind die riesigen Tropfsteine in der Grotte. Sie werden durch Regenwasser gebildet, das langsam im Boden versickert. Während das Wasser nach und nach verdunstet, lagert sich der Kalk lagert am Stein an.
