Schaubergwerk mit einer der schönsten Gipskristallgrotten Europas, deren Temperatur ganzjährig nur 8° - 10° Celsius beträgt.

Der Bergbau hat in Thüringen eine über 1000-jährige Geschichte.

In diesem Bergwerk wurde Gips für feinsten Stuck abgebaut. Im Jahr 1784 wurde die Kristallgrotte im Berg erschlossen. Dieses Material war besonders gut geeignet Altäre, Kronleuchter und Gemälde zu verzieren. Die Verzierung der Bildnisse von Maria, der Mutter Jesu führte zu der Bezeichnung „Marienglas“. Neben faszinierenden Gipskristallen mit bis zu 90 cm Länge beeindrucken in der Grotte vor allem die schnell wachsenden Tropfsteine.
