Cheese cave in Bad Bertrich

Die Käsegrotte in Bad Bertrich in der südlichen Eifel stellt eine geologische Besonderheit dar. Sie ist aus der Verwitterung eines Basaltlavatroms entstanden. Die senkrecht stehenden Säulen des basischen Ergussgesteins wurden nach und nach durch flachliegende Klüfte in gleichmäßig geformte Abschnitte zerteilt. Über die Jahre verwitterten die Klüfte weiter und es entstanden abgerundetete Einkerbungen.
Aus diesem Grund sieht die Grotte inzwischen so aus, als ob sie aus runden Stein-Käselaibern besteht.
Die Käsegrotte stellt die 20. Station der Deutschen Vulkanstraße dar.
