West of Hahnweilerhof, directly on the Palatinate Ridge Trail, lies a former hermitage carved into the rock.

West of the Hahnweilerhof, one can reach a former hermit's cell hewn into the rock in about a 15-minute walk. This cell probably existed before 1468. As early as 1468, the forest area there is referred to as "Klausenbo(u)sch." It is undisputed that a cell, thus a hermitage, was named after it. It must have already existed for a considerable time, otherwise the forest would not have been named after it. Such developments in the formation of place names, etc., typically take quite a long time. However, there are no further indications for this early period, and even later references are very thin. Hermits, meaning solitary individuals, were, however, a common occurrence during this time. The so-called hermit's cell measures about 2.40m x 3.70m, has a slightly man-high entrance, and an opening above. The cross-ribbed vault observable in the actual rock chamber suggests that this space was furnished as a small chapel, which was a common practice for a hermitage. The room, also hewn from the rock, in front of this presumed chapel was surely covered and thus served as the actual living space of the hermit. A spring arises directly beside the cell."
