The cave was first explored in 1879 by the Salzburg natural scientist Anton von Posselt-Czorich. In the following decades, dedicated cave explorers continued to map and study the impressive ice formations and extensive labyrinth of passages. Today, Eisriesenwelt is one of the most spectacular natural attractions in Austria.
Your visit begins with an hike through the alpine landscape or a cable car ride before reaching the impressive cave entrance. Inside, guided tours lead you through a mysterious world of ice and rock. Climbing numerous steps, you pass towering ice walls, frozen waterfalls and shimmering ice formations that glow in the light of the lamps.
Temperatures inside the cave remain below freezing throughout the year, so warm clothing is essential even in summer. The unique combination of nature, science and adventure makes Eisriesenwelt a truly unforgettable experience for visitors exploring the hidden world inside the mountains.
