Wegen unzureichender Wasserführung des Nesenbaches, der für den Betrieb von Mühlen und die Wasserversorgung Stuttgarts genutzt wurde, ließ Herzog Christoph 1566 den Pfaffensee und einen Stollen anlegen, der das Wasser zur Heidenklinge hin ableitete, von wo aus das Wasser den natürlichen Gefälle hinab zum Nesenbach floss.
