Medieval fortified manor house and motte-and-bailey castle.
Tretower Court and Castle combines a Norman motte-and-bailey castle with an exceptionally well-preserved medieval manor house. Located in the Brecon Beacons, the site reflects the changing lifestyles of Welsh border society from warfare to comfortable domestic living.
Visitors can explore reconstructed medieval interiors, towers, gardens, and defensive structures while learning about the Vaughan family who transformed the site into a prestigious residence.
Cadw is the Welsh Government's historic environment service and manages more than 130 historic sites across Wales, spanning prehistoric tombs, Roman forts, medieval castles, abbeys, industrial heritage and historic houses. Around 27 of the largest sites charge admission, while the majority are free to enter.
Admission status can occasionally change for special events or conservation work. Some free sites have no staff or facilities. Several major paid sites occasionally offer free entry days, especially around St David's Day. Cadw membership gives unlimited entry to all paid Cadw sites.
